NATIONAL CANNABIS NEWS

Could Interstate Cannabis Commerce Become a Reality?
“The possibility of legal cannabis companies shipping goods across state lines to other markets within the United States has been an industry talking point for years. Oregon activists even got a law approved in 2019 to prime the state for just such a development.”

California Expands Employees’ Right to Off-Duty Cannabis Use
“Beginning January 1, 2024, and following the passage of Assembly Bill 2188, the California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) will add employee protections against discrimination based on off-the-job cannabis use with a few, limited exceptions. Governor Newsom signed Assembly Bill 2188 into law on September 18, 2022. AB 2188 focuses on employee impairment from cannabis use, which it correlates only to the psychoactive component of cannabis, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and places new requirements on employer-required drug screening tests.”

Biden pardons thousands of people convicted on federal marijuana possession charges
“President Biden has pardoned thousands of people convicted on federal marijuana possession charges. The pardons don’t apply to people convicted of distributing or selling marijuana. Biden is urging governors to follow his lead and pardon those convicted on state charges of simple cannabis possession. State level convictions far outnumber federal ones. Here’s NPR’s Eric Westervelt.”

Ohio medical marijuana patients still unhappy with prices, though Michigan’s cannabis market may influence their expectations
“They may be comparing Ohio prices, which have dropped 17% in the past year, to Michigan’s marijuana prices – which have plummeted to new lows because the state does not cap the number of licenses. Ohio has license caps.”

Snoop Dogg Launches THC-infused Take on Funyuns
“”I’m excited to partner with Tsumo Snacks to bring some new snack options to the fans,” the legendary rapper stated. “There are plenty of sweet edibles out there, so when I created this product I wanted to put the Dogg twist on it, which is why I’m bringing the savory THC-infused crispy onion-flavored rings to my home state of California. You know that if I’m going to put my name on something, it’s guaranteed stamped Snoop D-O-Double-G fresh.””

State Rep. Bud Hulsey doesn’t see Tennessee’s legislature legalizing marijuana
“One thing I’ve thought about that we probably [should] change is, you do have people that have personal use of marijuana and they’ll have three four, five grams over a half ounce, but they don’t sell. It’s for them, but they can be charged with that same kind of felony as if they had 9 and a half pounds,” said Husley. “So we probably need in the legislature to adjust that to the way it [should] be so the charges are really correct and really accurate.”

U.S. Trade Court Rules Cannabis Paraphernalia Can Be Imported
“Under the CSA, “Drug paraphernalia” is considered “any equipment, product, or material of any kind which is primarily intended or designed for use in manufacturing, compounding, converting, concealing, producing, processing, preparing, injecting, ingesting, inhaling, or otherwise introducing into the human body a controlled substance.””

Scientists Finally Have Some Good News Regarding Marijuana Breathalyzers
“Researchers are trying to miniaturize their technology, thus extending its reach and becoming a viable option for testing drivers on the go. The technology could be incorporated into a traditional breathalyzer, resulting in a device that could test for both alcohol and THC in the future.”

MISSOURI CANNABIS NEWS

Legalized Cannabis in Missouri: What Employers Need to Know
“If Amendment 3 is approved, the new provision would not prevent employers from enforcing their drug and alcohol-free workplace policies, nor would it require employers to permit employees to be under the influence of marijuana while at work. Amendment 3 also would not prevent employers from continuing to test for marijuana impairment, under certain circumstances. Similarly, employers would not be subject to any liability for disciplining or discharging an employee for working or attempting to work while under the influence of marijuana.”

ILLINOIS CANNABIS NEWS

Benzinga Chicago Cannabis Capital Conference Highlights Women, Minorities
“In the expo hall, female-represented brands were out in full force, including Chicago Norml’s Edi Moore, My Bud Vase’s Doreen Sullivan, MtoM’s Christine Wilson, Illinois Equity Staffing’s Shawnee Williams, HerHighness’ Allison Krongard and Laura Eisman, Budwell’s Sara Hussain, and CannaBellaLux’s Tiffany Woodman, among others.”

Star Buds Becomes Illinois’ First Predominantly Black-owned Licensed Cannabis Company
““Proud to [be] a part of an amazing team with an amazing group of people. We all really worked our butts off to get here. To be the first Responsible Vendor approved by the state of Illinois, The First Cannabis Transportation license, and now to be the first predominately Black-owned craft grow to open is a Blessing,” said partner Victoria Williams.”

PENNSYLVANIA CANNABIS NEWS

Legal weed in Pennsylvania? Not if Doug Mastriano can stop it.
““All it’s done is destroy their society,” Mastriano told a conservative radio host in 2019, referring to states like Colorado and California where it is legal for adults to consume cannabis for recreational use. He said such places are “turning into rat holes and third-world backwashes.””

How we tracked workplace lawsuits involving Pennsylvania’s medical marijuana law
“After a drug screening indicated he had used marijuana, Philadelphia Gas Works employee Todd Douglas told me he faced a troubling choice: Give up a doctor-approved drug that provided pain relief, or risk his job. As our reporting explained, Douglas fought the drug test and won. Other medical marijuana patients weren’t so lucky.”

NEW YORK CANNABIS NEWS

Gov. Kathy Hochul confirms marijuana dispensaries set to open this year
“In an exclusive interview with the Advance Media New York editorial board on Wednesday, Gov. Kathy Hochul said the state’s plan to have 20 conditional adult-use retail dispensaries open by the end of this year is “still on track” – and to expect “another 20″ to open every month or so thereafter.”

Hochul hunts for marijuana DWI test as NY opens cannabis shops
“Cannabis remains in a person’s system longer than alcohol, making it harder to link usage to DWI, officials said — and there’s no test like an alcohol breathalyzer to prove intoxication. The cannabis law required DOH to issue a proposal to investigate ways to validly test for pot intoxication.”

OKLAHOMA CANNABIS NEWS

How federal drug reclassification could impact Oklahoma’s marijuana industry
“Removing marijuana from the Schedule 1 list of drugs at a federal level could bring more opportunities for licensed marijuana businesses in Oklahoma.”

MARYLAND CANNABIS NEWS

Majority of Md. voters favor legalizing recreational pot, Post-UMD poll finds
“Just under 3 in 4, or 73 percent, of Maryland voters favor legalizing “the use of cannabis” for people 21 and older by next July, matching language on November’s ballot. Support for the idea is widespread, with majorities favoring it across regions, education levels, and racial, partisan and age groups. Legalizing marijuana is especially popular among young voters, with 87 percent of voters under 40 favoring legalization.”
