In the summer of 2021, Illinois hosted a lottery and released a list of cannabis dispensary conditional license winners. Remember that as of 2023, many of these licensees have still not opened, sold, or filed for extensions to have more time to become operational.
A major cause for delays has been the decreasing valuation of these businesses on top of extensive delays that the state or the licensees have experienced. Some of these issues have been tied to not being able to secure real estate, funding, zoning, or the operational experience required to success.
However, several dispensary winners will succeed, but unfortunately, only time will tell which ones.
